The Afternoon Tea Series
Houghton Lodge Gardens and the Honesty Group are proud to present a collection of experiences to tempt and delight the senses, all of which include garden entry and afternoon tea in the fabulous Orangery overlooking the walled garden.
The Tea Series combines a traditional afternoon tea with a unique experience from within the gardens. Launching with a scent-sensation with ‘The Perfume Mistress’, a local perfumer who has a love of fragrance and the natural perfumery. After enjoying Afternoon Tea served by Honesty Group, visitors will enjoy a tour from one of the gardening team at Houghton Lodge Gardens discovering the scented flowers in the garden that might provide the creative inspiration for producing an essential oil. Having set the scene Tanya, the Perfume Mistress, will lead a workshop where guests will be able to create their own unique scent.
In August, Afternoon Tea is being combined with an exclusive talk from Hampshire’s newest gin producer. River Test Distillery will be launching their Mayfly Gin in August. Listen to their journey from the chalk streams to the unique bottle design and the botanicals used to create this wonderful gin. Guests will receive a 5cl bottle to take home and sample. The ticket includes entry to the gardens where you can also stroll along the banks of the famous river itself, The River Test, which flows through the garden.
Join Birchalls in September for a masterclass in making the perfect brew. Established in 1872, Birchalls have been blending tea for decades and, when prepared correctly, each one of their teas produces a revelation –a cup of tea that is bright, delicious and bursting with full flavour. Guests will receive a box of flagship breakfast tea to take home. The ticket includes entry to the gardens.
For each experience, Honesty at Houghton Lodge Gardens will be serving a delicious Afternoon Tea of sandwiches, cakes, scones, cream and jam, all homemade and using local ingredients.
30th July – From plant to perfume
2.30pm – 4.30pm
Inspired by the surrounding beauty of Houghton Lodge Gardens and using a palette of pure grade essential oils and absolutes, you will learn about the key ingredients in perfume creation and how to combine them. With ample time for sampling and discussion, you will be guided on basic perfumery composition and blending to create your own alcohol-based natural perfume spray. Enjoy a delicious afternoon tea followed by a garden tour with one of the gardening team to discover the scented flowers in the garden that might provide the creative inspiration for producing an essential oil, followed by a perfume experience.
Price per person £38.50 includes admission to the gardens which can be enjoyed at your leisure after the workshop. Each guest will create their own 10ml roller ball perfume blend to take away

17th August – A botanical affair in association with River Test Distillery.
3.30pm – 5.00pm
Famous for its gin-clear waters, the River Test has been the inspiration behind an exclusive new gin. Enjoy the story of ‘Mayfly Gin’ from their humble lifestyle living alongside the River Test, to the idea and vision for a new gin and the journey of mixing botanicals to find the perfect blend and the challenges along the way. Listen to their journey from the chalk streams to their unique bottle design.
Honesty at Houghton Lodge Gardens will be serving a delicious Afternoon Tea of sandwiches, cakes, scones, cream and jam, all homemade and using local ingredients.
Guests will sample this wonderful gin during the event and will receive a 5cl bottle to take home.
