This year, we are overjoyed to celebrate our remarkable 230th anniversary by offering a lineup of special events that will delight and entertain our cherished visitors. As proud owners of this enchanting Grade II* listed “Cottage Orné,” surrounded by majestic trees and sweeping lawns that gracefully meet the renowned River Test, we invite you to join us in commemorating this milestone.
Mark your calendars, as we officially open our gates on 1st April, ushering in the much-anticipated arrival of spring. However, before that, we have planned two special openings on 18th and 19th March. These extraordinary days will grant visitors the chance to witness the breathtaking sight of daffodils in full bloom, accompanied by the rare and exquisite scilla, serving as a testament to the awakening beauty of nature. On 19th March, we are honored to welcome the esteemed Mayor of Romsey to the gardens, as we prepare for our grand opening on 1st April.
In May, we will unveil our new Oriental Garden, a captivating sanctuary where visitors can immerse themselves in its tranquil beauty. Here, you can wander through the cherry orchard, stroll along the acer walk, find solace in the rose garden, and admire the serene stream. The garden will also showcase a stunning Torii, Moongate, and Japanese bridge, all nestled alongside the banks of a picturesque pond and island, adorned with water-loving marginal plants. Prepare to be captivated by the harmonious blend of Eastern-inspired elegance and natural splendor.
Throughout the year, we will be offering tours of our remarkable 18th-century historic house, allowing guests to step back in time and witness the architectural grandeur of a bygone era. To coincide with the first tour on 18th March, we will launch a new guidebook that offers an in-depth exploration of the house and gardens. Our Gothic-inspired house, listed as Grade II*, has rightfully earned its place as a “must-see” historic destination in Hampshire. During the tour, our knowledgeable guides will bring the house to life with captivating stories and amusing anecdotes, revealing the intimate details of this cherished family home. Marvel at the exquisite rooms, including the dining room, music room, and drawing room, adorned with precious treasures collected by generations of the Busk family. Feel the echoes of history resonate through the halls, as we share tales that have been part of this remarkable house since its construction in 1793. The intimate and informal ambiance of our house tours will make you feel right at home.
